Netiquette Golden Rule

Filed under: All things digital — Tags: — Melonie Gallegos @ 1:20 pm

Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, and social networks in general are much like attending a big dinner party. As you would there you can stay out of trouble by avoiding:

  • Sex
  • Politics
  • Religion

The golden rule however is authenticity, so be yourself as you would in any public setting full of strangers or when having a private conversation knowing others can overhear it. If you’re a political commentator or publically advocate controversial issues – that’s the public you. If you are a CEO who doesn’t speak openly about your swinging lifestyle – that’s the public you. Be you. And be aware of what context you bring to the conversation with others on the Internet.
